May 2017

Once again a return to the Cliffs Pavilion Maritime rooms in Southend was a great night for us, really mixing the set up with a few surprise numbers thrown in including a cover of “Round and Round” as a tribute to the late Chuck Berry. David recorded this in 1972 during the Ziggy sessions and ended up as the b-side to “Drive In Saturday”

Last week was all go for me playing a solo show at Tribfest in Bahrain in front of 3.5 thousand people. It had been 33 degrees during the day but had dropped a bit by the time I got on stage, which I was quite pleased about. This is the second time I have had the privilege of playing this festival and met some wonderful artists sharing the event with me. By the time I landed in Birmingham on the Saturday, I was then heading straight up to Tynemouth to headline the Fakefest with Aladdinsane later that night.

This is the second Fakefest we have done so far with more coming up this year around the Country. Again an audience in excess of 3000 who were fantastic from beginning to end. The audience gave us a fantastic response on every number.

Although we have quite a few shows lined up this year already, there are still more shows to be confirmed for later this year as well as booking for 2018.

Next stop is the Bowie Convention in Hull. We have had the privilege of headlining this event 3 times now and looking forward to seeing many familiar faces in the audience.

More news to follow later, Paul x

March 2017

We are pleased to say that there are many new locations around the Country to see Aladdinsane during 2017, with still mores shows on the way.

Legends Of Rock in Great Yarmouth had a great turnout for us. This is one we have done 4 times now and always look forward to returning to. With the introduction of more new songs added this year is proving to be a very exciting year ahead for us.

This year we are playing many more large festivals around the Country as we are playing at quite a few Fake fests aswell.

Many of you have been asking about seeing us in theatres again. This is hopefully going to be more possible for 2018.

Please keep an eye out on the gig page as this is expanding on a weekly basis

Jan 2017

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year.

Since the sad news of David Bowie’s passing, I have noticed even more fans just wanting to be together at the theatres and festivals we have played.

We are honoured with all the incredible feedback we have received, especially over this last year . We had some amazing turnouts to many of the shows last year.

We always tend to keep quiet until the end of January, working on new material for the 2017 shows. So as no surprise to many, we make a welcome return to the Citadel in St Helens on Jan 28th and hope it is a sell out again.

This year we will be playing even more festivals throughout the Country and looking forward to putting on more theatre shows aswell. The gig page has been updated but please be aware that there will be more shows included for this year.

More new outfits and material is being prepared for this years shows and we are looking forward to be performing at some more new locations this year as well as returning to some of our favourite venues. We look forward to seeing you at our shows very soon,

Paul x

July 2016 Bits and pieces

So much has happened since I last posted here, so now it’s well overdue for a catch up.

I was asked to go to Bahrain in April to play a festival there as a solo act. This was a great experience for me not having been there before. The stage was huge with two massive video screens either side with an approx 3000 strong audience. It was great to meet all the other acts and spend some time getting to know them. Hopefully I will get the chance to go back again in the near future.

Reboot Fest – Workington

We always love travelling up to new locations and the Lake district was no exception. We were headlining the event and had a really great time there, despite it still being rather chilly on the night we took the stage. We really appreciated how many people were there waiting for us.

David Bowie convention, Derby

It is always an honour to be asked to headline this convention, so with a new bigger venue and a sell-out for avid Bowie fans, this surely was a great night for us all. I believe it will take place in Hull next year, so will keep you informed.

Cliffs Pavilion, Southend, Essex – New Milton Hall, Hampshire – Boltfest, Lancashire

A very memorable and busy weekend with 3 shows. The Maritime rooms at the Cliffs Pavilion is always a good night for us and a great audience.

We played the Memorial hall in New Milton for the first time and certainly not disappointed at all, so looking forward to returning back there in 2017.

Boltfest was another headliner event for us. We could not have asked for more with thousands really getting behind us enjoying some of David Bowie’s best known songs.

Bowienet party, Surya, London

I am so thankful that the Bowienetters have had us back once again to headline the event. Great performances by everyone and an honour to be endorsed by them. I believe that around £10’000 was raised for the cancer charity. Looking forward to this event again in 2017. Sadly and certainly missed was the personal message from David that he sent for this event for us all every year.

Kings Lynn festival

Another fantastic festival for us, this time as the support for the Wonder Stuff. Lovely to chat with Miles Hunt after the show when the 5000 wonderful audience gradually dispersed.

Blyth theatre, Northumberland.

It was a pleasure to be asked back to play this lovely theatre. I always remember the fantastic light shows they put on for their acts there. It was a long drive back though straight after the show but we were feeling quite exhilarated from the vibe there.

Dartford festival

We love playing these large festivals and again Dartford was yet another great event for us. Toyah was there performing aswell, so could not miss the chance for a quick chat with her before she left which was really nice. This show also brought back Mark Hatton for a one off performance, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Again the massive support from thousands really showed there.

I have also undertaken a few more solo shows this year, which I really enjoy doing more so these days. Plus as the band we have many more shows to look forward to in 2016 including a couple more large festivals, Festwich in Manchester and the Big Fake festival in Newark.

I am so grateful for some of the video footage we have received from recent shows. Some of it will now be uploaded onto the website. Many thanks to everyone who has been at our shows recently and given us some amazing feedback. We are very grateful for all the lovely comments we each receive.

Finally there will be more new material added for our shows in 2017. The problem being is with David’s vast repertoire of material means we could not possibly incorporate all the material we now have into one show, so please understand if we miss out someone’s favourite track. Of course with many shows the hit singles are a must, but we do like to treat the ardent fans to some classic album tracks aswell when we get the chance.

March 2016 Bits and pieces

There was no chance that we were going to put on any shows in January out of respect, we were not jumping on the band wagon and taking advantage of the sad loss of David. I personally would not have been capable of performing those songs so shortly after David’s passing, as you all know I have followed David since I was a young boy.

On the 8th January I was invited to Berlin to perform at Hansa studios where David recorded some of his Heroes album amongst other bits. It was to coincide with David’s birthday and the release of Blackstar. I met some lovely people there including Eduard Meyer who was the sound engineer at the time David recorded there. I also did an acoustic performance the next day at Café Nueus Ufer, a place just below where David lived which David, Iggy and Tony Visconti  frequented. This place has since become a shrine for David. There are plans for me to return there at the end of October this year, I will keep you all informed.

A couple of  shows we have recently played had a fantastic turnout, firstly The Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield and then the Citadel in St Helens, where the audience of over 300 almost blew the roof off.

Last weekend we played a couple of nights, for the first time, in Guernsey at the Doghouse which were really well attended. The audiences on both nights were great. We have just been informed that we have been asked to return for the 2 nights to the Doghouse in August 2017 and this time also to play a 3rd show on the balcony at the Cobo Hotel. The Cobo one sounds amazing as apparently the road is closed off and the audience numbers thousands. WOW!!

We have been very fortunate to have been invited to play some great festival shows during 2016, we will even be  headlining a couple of them. Please check our gig page regularly for details of all confirmed gigs. On confirmation there will be notification of yet more shows currently under discussion. I bid you all a fond adieu!

Jan 2016

Please be aware that our next two shows – Feb 5th at Yellow Arch Studios, Sheffield and Feb 6th at the Citadel, St Helens have sold out.

I will update the blog page again after these shows

Jan 2016

Please forgive me for not making a long post. I am shocked and saddened about the passing of David as I am sure you all are aswell.

Our first thoughts are with David’s family and close friends at this moment in time.

I will be posting here later this month.

Thankyou for your understanding

Bits and pieces – Sept 2015

We have been fortunate to have had some cracking shows recently and some really lovely feedback from the audiences, Moses Gate in Bolton, Towngate theatre in Basildon and Huntingdon Hall theatre in Worcester.

More new material has been added to the shows and we will continue to do so. “Time”, “Soul Love”, “Black Country Rock” and “Be My Wife” being the latest additions. I do keep getting questions about when will there be something added from “Labyrinth”. I am sure that there will be a track added some point soon.

Looking forward to the remaining shows we have for 2015 and we have some new venues confirmed for 2016 with more new venues on the cards. More details will follow at the end of October.

One more thing I feel I should mention! the Worcester show last week was Malcolm and Gail’s 100th show. They first saw us in 2007 and have watched everything evolve since. So on behalf of all the band I presented them with a cake and tour shirts for their continuous support of Aladdinsane. Thankyou to you both!

Love on ya all

Paul

Bits and pieces May 2015

I’m really pleased to say we have had some well attended shows over the last 3 months.

Great to return back to the Cliffs Pavilion Maritime room in Southend, Stamford Corn Exchange, The Square in Harlow and Newmarket Memorial Hall.

Also lovely to be back at the Derby Bowie convention in May and meeting many great fans of David. I also played an acoustic set there on the following day with Franco and Carl supporting me.

I really enjoy performing a few solo numbers and don’t get the chance to do it apart from the odd number at a show

So we played a 50 min set of various songs including a couple of my own compositions. Also nice to perform “Billy Porter” by Mick Ronson, which I had not done for quite some time.

Nice to meet Clifford Slapper, the author of “Bowie’s Piano Man” who signed copies of the book there, which I have not finished reading yet. This is about the life of Mike Garson’s musical journey. I do highly recommend it.

We are still aiming to gets to different areas of the Country which we have not been to yet, with some new shows already planned for 2016, plus more shows to come from Oct to Dec this year . Details of  more 2015 shows will be added to the gig list when confirmed

Bits and pieces February 2015

The Citadel show we did on 30th Jan has to be one of the best shows we have had for a while and very well attended, with a 274 strong audience. Great sound and lighting show, so thanks to all involved. Big thanks to a very receptive audience. The atmosphere there was awesome.

The Northwest of the Country seems to be quite a stronghold for Aladdinsane and we certainly look forward to returning again in August to the Moses gate in Bolton, as well as a return to the Citadel early 2016.

On the subject of Aladdinsane t-shirts I mentioned recently, these should be available to purchase at the Corn Exchange theatre in Stamford when we are there on 28th Feb.

Onwards and upwards, fortunately we have some good venues booked for 2015 and will still be booking a few more throughout the year.
